Pulver Antique Chewing Gum Vending Machine Cop & Robber
This is a rare version of the original Cop & Robber short case vending machine from Pulver Chewing Gum, circa 1930. It is in excellent and working condition. This is one of the early models without rivets. The first 50 to 100 units were manufactured by welding the pieces together. When this proved to be too time consuming, a method of riveting was used instead, which is why you will see four rivets surrounding the lock on most of these machines. In addition, this early unit has text on the side of the case. Most of the machines are are plain on the sides. The text enhances the look of its beautiful case. It is all porcelain with original paint, except for some touch-up spots at the top edge. There is hardly any surface wear. The original paper labels are present behind the glass. Both lock and winding key are included. The mechanism operates smoothly with cents, and works best with wheat pennies since they are slightly heavier than modern day coins. The mechanism must be periodically wound to work. Some reproduction packs of "Too Choos" and "Joy Mint" gum are provided so you can enjoy the action. And the action is quite funny, as the policeman hits the robber with his nightstick. * The overall dimensions are 9 x 21 x 4 1/2 inches. * This is one of the finest Pulver gum machines you will find and it will be a stand-out in any collection. * This machine is featured on page 160 of the book Silent Salesman Too by Bill Enes (as shown in the photo).
