<B>Spanish Colonial. "Fleur de lis" Counterstamp (1884), </B></I>KM13-15 but on a previously unrecorded host coin, Mexico 8 Reales 1819-CG Durango, holed VF. In 1884 silver coins which had been holed were counterstamped the Puerto Rican customs houses to legitimatize them for trade and were subsequently redeemed in 1894. This particular counterstamp punch has long been the subject of controversy, but is unquestionably part of the lore of this series.
