<B>Pueblo Buffalo Rawhide War Shield</B></I><BR>Circa 1800<BR>Diameter 14 in.<BR><BR>This thick buffalo rawhide shield is finely painted with a pair of avanyus (water serpents), a central vertical band in black, green, and red, and with small green circles spread over the white background. A short wood handle, usually associated with Pima shields, is tied to the reverse.
