Providence Arms Peabody Patent Martini Single Shot Custom Rifle
Developed during the Civil War, but unable to get into full production before the war ended. Subsequent sales were primarily exports to militaries both in Europe and South America. Replacement Patridge blade front and tangent rear sights, marked "PEABODY'S PAT./ JULY 22. 1862/ MAN'F'D BY/ PROVIDENCE TOOL CO./ PROV. R.I." on the left side of the frame. The left side of the wrist has a tiny "W.C." cartouche and several components have a single sub inspector's letter proof. A pair of "Crown/ V" proofs are present on the top rear section of the barrel and top of the receiver, and a small anchor is stamped on top of the wrist. Walnut stock with a pewter forearm tip and a smooth steel military style buttplate.

Very fine as period customized/modified, with 75% of the original blue. Some light scratches and dings are visible, along with a few streaks of brown patina. Approximately 70% bright original colors are present on the receiver, showing some mild silvering-out on the edges and scattered spotting. Stock is fine, with pressure dents, scratches and a few small chips. Mechanically excellent.
