Prototype Model 1917 Winchester Bayonet
This is a mint example of a prototype Winchester Model 1917 bayonet manufactured prior to the start of production of the Model 1917 rifle in September of 1917. The bayonet is a modification of the British bayonet manufactured for the P-14 Rifle. The blade has a rare high polish blue finish, single fuller, single edged and measures 17 1/8". The two-piece, oil-finished, black walnut, grip lacks the two grooves found on production M1917 bayonets. The hilt and pommel have the same high polish blue finish as the blade. There are no markings on the blade, hilt, or pommel. The bayonet does not have a scabbard. The consignor states that the bayonet was purchased with a prototype Model 1917 rifle from a Winchester collection.
