Protector Chicago Palm Pistol Short Cal Gun 1893 RARE
This is the "Protector," made by the Chicago Firearms Company. This is a .32 extra-short caliber pistol. It has not been fully tested, but appears to be functional, and in very good condition. The surface is has engraved flowers around the barrel, and leaf pattern around the circular frame on one side. The manufacturer name is stamped on one side. There is engine turning and and a patent date on the other side. The date is Augu. 29 93. This company was established by Peter Finnegan, who originally bought the rights to this pistol from the Minneapolis Firearms Company and then established his own business in Chicago. He made improvements on the design, and then contracted the production out to the Ames Sword Company of Massachusetts. The plan was to have them ready for the opening of the Chicago World's Fair of 1892, but Ames defaulted, and failed to deliver them until the fair was over. Finnegan sued, and won a settlement against Ames, and then sold the existing 13,000 pistols from 1894 through 1910. * * This is an unsual design for a gun, and a rare find. *
