French dramatist, historian, archaeologist, and short story writer (1803-1870). One of his stories was the basis of the opera Carmen. ALS in French, signed “Pr. Merimee,” one page, 5.25 x 8, May 4, 1856. Untranslated letter to a friend. In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, one through a single letter of signature, small pencil notation near top, and a bit of scattered light toning.
