Proposed World Trade Center. The buildi
Proposed World Trade Center. The buildings that were never built: excessively rare original illustrated brochure soliciting tenants for the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan as it was designed but never built. N.d. but late 1961 or 1962, opening to 8 -3/4 x 1 2 -1/2 , aqua, caramel, and black on embossed white enamel, diecut circle with rendering as a cluster of one medium-height and two low buildings. Hudson River in background. Nested reply postcard for prospective tenants to request information. Printed by Port of N.Y. Authority. Originally, the World Trade Center was limited to firms engaged in export-import. The modest pioneer design in this brochure was ultimately replaced by the twin 110-story towers, ironically built on the ruins of New York's old port. It became unfeasible to limit occupancy to world trade businesses, and not long after opening, anyone who could pay the rent was admitted. At one point, the buildings were such a financial albatross that there was talk of tearing them down! Trivial file crease, else mint. With modern history of W.T.C. origins.
