(Proposed Expedition to Conquer French Canada) Henry Holland, Jr. (1704 - c.1782), prominent Albany, New York jurist and military officer, manuscript Document Signed, "Henry: Holland" as commissary, one page, 8" x 13", [Albany], docketed October 13, 1746 to "...the Justices of the Township of Schenectady..." ordering them "...to Impress All the Waggons (that is two horses and one Man to a Waggon) That are within Your Precinct so that they bay be in the City of Albany on Thursday next to Transport his Majesties Troops on the Intended Expedition against Canada..." The planned expedition was part of what was known in America as "King George's War" (1744-1748), one of several wars fought between Britain and France in the eighteenth century. The planned expedition did not come to fruition but was likely to have been in retaliation for the French raid on Saratoga the previous year. Usual folds, a few marginal chips and tears, else Very Good. An interesting, early document from one of the numerous aborted attempts to conquer Canada. (Maple syrup would so much cheaper if one had been successful!) The British finally succeeded in resting control of that country from the French when Quebec fell in 1759. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
