Phillip Rhys Adams, Walt Kuhn, Painter, His Life and Work, Ohio State University Press, 1978, p. 239 (illustrated, pl. 8) <p> Walt Kuhn is known predominantly as a realist painter recording the harsh realities of the lives of circus entertainers. Prior to the groundbreaking "Armory Show" which he helped organize, Kuhn's work was characterized by Impressionist brushwork and working class subject matter, more akin to the themes addressed by the Ashcan School.
