Townsend and Company of New York City commissioned [Darley] to produce illustrations for James Fenimore Cooper's complete works, which were published between 1859 and 1861."1 This drawing became the subject of one of the 184 engravings for "The Cooper Vignettes." <p> Notes 1 Catherine Hoover Voorsanger and John K.
