Proof of Unused "Moon Landing" Cancel (No. 2 of 4) on a #10 envelope without cachet (add-on cachet included separately). The cancel reads: "Moon Landing / USA /, Jul 20, 1969". This cancel was taken prior to the flight as a test. There is a box red "Proof" hand stamp at the lower left that reads: "The markings and inscriptions on this cover are examples of the usage of the postmarks and cancellations applied to mail which was carried aboard the flight of Apollo eleven. This is not a flown cover". These covers were made by the same couple who prepared the covers that were flown onboard the flight by the Apollo 11 (and subsequent) crews to the moon. There is a Webster, TX / Aug 11, 1069 backstamp cancel on the cover as also seen on the flown Apollo 11 covers (Aug 11 is when the crew, and their flown covers, were released from quarantine after the flight). Only four of these covers were prepared and this is THE LAST of the four. A similar cover (with cachet) realized almost $4,000 in the Aurora Galleries April 2002 auction. Estimate: $ 3,000 - 4,000
