***Auction Highlight*** 1876-p BF-2 Twenty Cent Piece 20c Graded Choice Proof By USCG. Up for auction is a Proof 1876 Twenty Cent Piece BF-2. Of the odd-denomination minor coinage issues of the United States, the twenty cent piece is by far the shortest-lived series. Business strikes and proofs were coined in 1875 and 1876, with a combined total of only 1,110 coins struck in proof-only format in 1877 and 1878. Its downfall was directly tied to public confusion between the new twenty cent design and the quarter dollar. Two die marriages sharing a single reverse die were employed to produce 1876 twenty-cent pieces, each striking both circulation strike and Proof examples. With a total mintage of 1,260 Proof coins, this figure nearly matches the 1,200 coin mintage of the inaugural 1875 issue and, as such, both issues are of nearly congruent rarity in today's market. As a relic from our nation's Centennial and a truly breathtaking piece to behold, this specimen is a thoroughly superb representative of the Proof double-dime series. With the popularity of people collecting something relevant to the nations centennial, many of the 1876 Proofs saw their way into non collectors hands and as such, many are in poor condition. The example at hand clearly was well preserved. It also has a neat Mint Error struck thru on the reverse under the Eagle’s left wing (right to the observer) A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin
