***Auction Highlight*** 1864 J-371 Pattern Copper-Nickel 2c TOP POP! Graded pr66 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT - ULTRA Rare 1870 2c Pattern Proof Coin, J-371, Struck on Copper-Nickel. Tied for Finest Known, PR66 by SEGS. This coin has a pedigree marker on the reverse by the O in ‘OF’, which is an interesting mint-made Lamination Error. I spotted this coin at two different Heritage Auctions in 2004 and 2007. It realized $3220 in 2004, But at that time the coin was housed in a PCGS Rattler, 1st Generation Holder PR65. Generally a Rattler, being PCGSs 1st year, is 1-2 points below current grading standards, so it is no surprise to today find it in a SEGS PR66 holder. I am Fairly certain, it would easily cross back to PCGS at either PR66 or PR66+. The last and only PR66 to have sold, sold for $14,950 in 2013 in the Legend Regency V Auction. I am including a closeup of the coin in both the 2004 and 2007 auctions. Good Luck.
