STEPHEN GIRARD (1750 - 1831). American Banker, businessman, philanthropist. Girard was one of the most important bankers in America during the early 1800's. June 1, 1831. DS. 1 page. 8" x 3". "Six months after date I promise to pay to the order of Stephen Girard, four hundred thirty-seven 12/100 dollars without defalcation for value received." Girard endorses the note on December 1 in a very shaky hand displaying his elderly state. Girard died on December 26. Fine.
