Extraordinary stamp set given to Senator Robert S. Kerr, chairman of the Senate Committee on Aeronautical and Space Sciences, consisting of a sheet of 1962 four-cent Project Mercury postage stamps in a black hardcover presentation folder, signed and inscribed inside the folder’s cover by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Deke Slayton, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, and Wally Schirra, all of whom sign using their formal full names. The same six Mercury astronauts also sign a total of twenty-one individual postage stamps, with Shepard signing one stamp and the others each signing four. In fine condition. From the estate of Senator Kerr. Kerr succeeded Johnson as chairman of the committee in 1961 when Johnson became vice president, serving in the position until his death in 1963. A superior piece connecting America’s space program with the politicians who made it possible.
