Professionally framed and matted display including an original page 3 of a Court document transferring land to an E.W. Cline dated October 4, 1904 and signed by William Tilghman, Sheriff of Lincoln County, Oklahoma Territory; also included is a copy of a photo of Tilghman and a summary of his positions in law enforcement from 1878 until November 1, 1924, where as Chief of Police in Cromwell, Oklahoma, he was killed in theline of duty at the age of 70. Bill Tilghman was perhaps one of the most famous lawmen of his time, although often overlooked today in favor of the Earps and Mastersons; he was a buffalo hunter, City Marshal of Dodge City,Deputy U.S. Marshal of the Oklahoma Territory, Chief of Police of the cities of Perry, Oklahoma City and later Cromwell and served at a time as an Oklahoma State Senator; also in the display is a nicelyaccomplished brass reproduction crescent moon Deputy U.S. Marshal’s badge similar to the one Bill would have worn when in that assignment.
