Professional Copy of a Short Barrel 1902 "Prototype" Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a copy of a prototype Luger pistol manufactured by the DWM factory. The intertwined initials "GL" is present on the rear of the toggle assembly. Prototype pistols were unique as each one was manufactured to test or develop a different manufacturing or production concept. The most obvious feature on this copy is that it has a heavier style short 3-3/4" barrel in lieu of the standard slim taper barrels of 4-3/4 or 6" lengths. The second difference is the rifling in the barrel which has an unusual pattern of four grooves and four lands, and the grooves are approximately double the width of the lands and both have a very high polish appearance with a rounding of the lands. The third difference is that the safety area is marked "GESICHERT" under the safety lever instead of the typical polished area; Gesichert markings were not used on production pistols until the 1906/08 period. The front of the frame has the correct prototype serial number in the 10,000 range with the small letter "B" suffix on the end
