Production Made Dress from Footloose
In the 1984 smash hit "Footloose", a city boy, Ren (Kevin Bacon) turns a small town upside down when he "introduces" them to rock and dance. The town's powerful Reverend Moore (John Lithgow) bases most of the "foundation of decency" on banning such things. Of course Ren falls in love with the Reverend's daughter Ariel (Lori Singer). At the end of the film, Ren blasts open the Reverend's control during a "banned" dance at the local high school. One of the strongest moments is when Ariel's mother (Dianne Wiest), not only allows her daughter to go to the dance, but gives her an amazing dress. The look of this dress was extremely important to the production. So much so, that costume designer Gloria Gresham had several styles made up for them to decide on. This beautiful pink dress was one of the production made dresses created for the scene. Ironically, a more "revealing" style was finally chosen!
