Printed Materials/Newspapers: Confessions of Gibbs the Pirate
April 5, 1831, THE ALBANY GAZETTE, Published by G.W. Ryckman & Co., NY, Very Fine. Vol. XLVIII, No. 9535, 20.5" x 15.5", 4 pages, 6-column layout. Light-toned paper with minor edge wear, and trivial splits. A great variety of news and perspectives of the times, including information on page 1 about expansion of the railroads, page 2 debate on the merits of the "U.S. Bank," pages 2-3 accounts of international news, and page 4 article reprinted from the "Journal of Commerce" on "Gibbs the Pirate"--an individual who was apparently partially responsible for the capture of "nearly twenty vessels and in THE MURDER OF NEARLY FOUR HUNDRED HUMAN BEINGS." Wonderfully descriptive language throughout.
