Printed Materials/Newspapers: 1820 Advertisement for Passage on the First Steamship!
December 26, 1820, NEW-ENGLAND PALLADIUM & COMMERCIAL ADVERTISER, Published by Young & Minns, Boston, MA, Fine. Vol. II, No. 51, 21" x 15.5", 6-column layout, 4 pages. A light-brown-toned paper with edge splits, light type, tape repair to spine, stains and general foxing--all which add to the character of this item from early 19th-century Boston. Pages 1-2 have articles celebrating the Bicentennial of the December 22, 1620 landing of the "Pilgrim Fathers" on Wampanoag territory (where they started Plymouth Plantation and the Massachusetts Bay Colony), and pages 3-4 have advertisements of merchants--most notably an ad for passage on the first steam vessel built for ocean service: the "Robert Fulton," which was constructed for David Dunham & Co., for trade between New York and the island of Cuba. Outstanding, vintage content!
