Beautiful matte-finish 6 x 7.75 soft focus photograph of Princess Margaret with her infant son David Armstrong Jones (eventually Second Earl of Snowden, born 3 November 1961), affixed to a 7.25 x 10 mount, signed on the mount in fountain pen by Princess Margaret, "Margaret, Xmas 1961," and by her husband, the photographer Anthony Armstrong Jones, "Tony." Displayed in a 9.75 x 11.75 green leather and gilt presentation frame by Jarrolds of Knightsbridge (London) with moire silk lining, support leg, and gilt tooling surround. In fine condition, with "Xmas" traced over in blue ballpoint.

Lord Snowden G.C.V.O., R.D.I., (Anthony Armstrong Jones) was a professional photographer and filmmaker. Highly accomplished and with an avant garde style for the time, he was well known for society portraits commissioned by the Tatler; and was responsible for the official photography during the Royal tour of Canada in 1957. He is best known for his photo portraits of the good and great of the day, including Marlene Dietrich, Princess Grace of Monaco, Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor and others. More than 100 of his photographs are housed in the National Portrait Gallery in London. This photograph was taken by Lord Snowden, shortly after the birth of his son, David.
