Glossy 8 x 8.5 photograph of Princess Margaret together with her sister Queen Elizabeth, affixed to an 8 x 10 mount, signed on the mount in ink, "Margaret, 1980." Nicely displayed in a 9.25 x 11.25 red leather gilt presentation frame by Smythson of Bond Street. In fine condition, with light dampstaining touching the date.

This photograph was one of a series taken of Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, and the Queen Mother in an official photo shoot by famed photographer Norman Parkinson in 1980. All three were photographed wearing deep blue satin jackets designed by Hardy Amies. This particular image appears to be a less formal shot taken during the shoot, showing the two sisters looking directly at each other and doubtless presented to someone in Princess Margaret’s circle of friends.

Princess Margaret, sister of H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II, was something of a controversial figure. Numerous biographies and biopics show her as a misguided, lonely woman seeking attention in the shadow of her elder sister, Elizabeth. An adventurous romantic, a heavy smoker and drinker and with a listless, defiant spirit, she was nevertheless a beautiful and stylish woman with no shortage of suitors.
