Youngest daughter of Czar Nicholas II of Russia (1901-1918), Anastasia was murdered with her family on July 17, 1918, by forces of the Bolshevik secret police. Autograph note signed in Russian, signed ''Anastasia,'' on the front and inside of a 5.25'' x 2.5'' fold-open card bearing a color chromolithograph of two little girls in winter clothes and sable muffs, one of which carries a Christmas tree. Lovely little note from the eight-year old princess to her ''Shura'' dated October 16, 1909. In part (translated) ''…How are you, what makes your health…'' Some scattered light toning and soiling, primarily to first page, a couple stray ink marks, and a bit of trivial surface loss to top right corner, otherwise fine condition. A child with a distinct character all her own, once enjoying some chocolates without bothering to remove her white opera gloves, Anastasia was also prone to various health woes, including bunions and weak back muscles. It's interesting, then, that the Grand Duchess, even at such a young age, would still bother to inquire about the health of another. During this period, Anastasia was undoubtedly under the medical care of Rasputin, the Russian mystic who treated her brother, Alexei, and who developed a great friendship with the Imperial children. A brief but tender note from the young royal.
