Rani Gouri Lakshmi Bayi became a ruler of Travancore State at very young age of 20 Years. In the ensuing period the East India Company tightened control over the administration and Col. Mumro the Resident performed the role of the Diwan. Rani Lakshmi Bayi sought Col. Mumro’s approval to strike a Varahan with the device of Lakshmi, her namesake, seated on Lotus. Since the approval was not immediately forthcoming, she introduced two Lotus Spring to the existing Ananthvarahan.
