Jodhpur - silver rupee struck during the reign of Ram Singh, Sojat Mint, in the name of Alamgir II, complete mint name at bottom on reverse, Lingen M&J S.02.02, 11.26g.

Good very fine, Very rare.

Maharaja Ram Singh signed a treaty with Sindhias of Gwalior on 2nd February 1756 at Nagaur. By this treaty he secured for himself the half portion of the kingdom of Marwar from Maharaja Bijay Singh and allowed a Maratha Kamavisdar to station in his territory in order to collect a daily share from customs outposts. The Marathas and Ram Singh were to share the money equally. It is plausible that a mint was opened at Sojat to facilitate this joint undertaking.
