Gwalior, Mahadaji Rao (1765-1794 AD), silver rupee in the name of Shah Alam II, Shahjahanpur mint, full mint-name on reverse, RY9, unlisted in major publications, 11.18g.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

Shahjahanpur was an important market town in the Sindhia territories in Central India, located between the Chambal and Betwa rivers. Later coins with a Trisul mint-mark have been offered in other auctions. This is perhaps the earliest issues of the mint, which has no Trisul mark on reverse, and if the RY on the reverse is assumed to be of Shah Alam II, it was struck soon after Mahadaji Sindhia's claim to the Sindhia gaddi was ratified by the Peshwa.
