Prince's personally-owned and -worn purple ruffled long-sleeve custom-made shirt from the Purple Rain era, lavishly crafted from satin and chiffon, featuring pearlescent buttons on the neck, body, and cuffs. The sheer royal purple shirt has no labels, although one was evidently removed from the neck collar area. In fine condition, with a few small stains. This particular shirt was originally purchased from Lelands by Planet Hollywood prior to 2000, and includes an original shipping label, as well as a photo of it displayed in their restaurant. The Planet Hollywood display featured a plaque reading: "Prince emerged as one of the most singular talents of the '80s era, capable of tying together pop, funk, folk and rock. Prince wore this sheer purple shirt on stage." The shirt was subsequently sold by Backstage Auctions, and is accompanied by their certificate of authenticity. It also includes a small "Prince" plaque that was used in a later display.

The consignor of this piece consulted with one of one of Prince's former costume designers of three years, who confirmed it as being from the Purple Rain era. The designer noted that after Purple Rain, none of Prince's custom clothing was made with labels in the neck collar area, as he hated them for two reasons: he found them silly because he already knew who he was; and from a practical standpoint, they made him itch. He also disliked the gathered sleeves on this style of shirt, so none were made in this manner following the 1984–85 Purple Rain Tour. As an iconic purple-hued, personally-worn shirt from Prince's most iconic era, this is a truly spectacular piece worthy of a museum.
