Ballpoint signature, “‘Love God,’ P, ‘88,” on the reverse of a 5.75 x 4 compliments sheet from the W. H. Smith bookstore in Paris. Prince used this autograph variation for a short period while he was touring for his 1988 album Love Sexy. In very good condition, with creases, stains, and a central vertical fold.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “I met Prince in the summer of 1988. I was working in WH Smith’s in Place de La Concorde. I was 21 at the time and worked in Smiths as a summer job. We had a lot of famous clients as we were the only book shop that had up to date UK magazines and books. Prince arrived at the front door at 7 pm as were shutting the shop. I stood there with eye to eye contact. He had 2 bodyguards with him. We let him in and I volunteered to show him around the shop as I did the music section. He went round every section handing magazines and books over his shoulder to his body guards. He was not very happy in the music section as we only had one book on him. I talked to him a lot and probably annoyed him but I asked him for his autograph whilst he was looking at the music section. He said ‘of course’ and signed it…He was only 5 feet 3 but looked amazing - very good looking and he had a purple paisley suit on with matching boots. He was playing at Bercy in Paris that July. I only wished I asked for tickets!”
