Christmas card from the mid-to-late 1950s, measuring 15.75 x 6.75 open, the right side featuring a photograph of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip with their children, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, on a balcony at Buckingham Palace, signed on the left side in fountain pen, "Philip." The card bears a printed inscription, "With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year." Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 20.25 x 10. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light foxing.

A prince in his own right, Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. Relocating to the UK prior to the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Royal Navy at the age of 18 in 1939 and served in the British Mediterranean and Pacific fleets during World War II. After the war, and after significant scheming by Earl Mountbatten, Philip was granted permission by King George VI to marry the then Princess Elizabeth. In order to do so he had to first renounce his Greek and Danish Royal titles and become a British subject—following which he adopted the surname Mountbatten. He was formally made a British Prince in 1957.
