The method by which Prince proposed to Susannah Melvoin: an assortment of four note cards from Bachman's florist in Minneapolis, each annotated with a response as prepared by the florist per Prince's instructions. The cards read, "Please.," "No.," "Guess?," and "Yes." A purple envelope addressed to "Miss Malvoin [sic]" is included. Also includes two tiny 2 x 2 black-and-white photos of Prince, plus two newspaper clippings concerning his engagement to Melvoin. In fine condition, with a few marks to the "Guess?" card, and a stain and tears to the envelope. From the collection of singer-songwriter Susannah Melvoin, an extended member of the Revolution during the Parade era, who shared a longterm working musical relationship with and was engaged to Prince during the 80s. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susannah Melvoin.

Midsummer of 1986 proved a momentous time period for Prince in both his public and private lives. It marked the release of his second film, Under the Cherry Moon, and more importantly, Prince was arranging plans to propose to his longtime girlfriend Susannah Melvoin. In early July, Prince sent these note cards and a bouquet of flowers to Melvoin as mysterious pre-proposal clues, only days before the pair were in New York purchasing a diamond engagement ring at Van Cleef & Arpels. Time being of the essence, Prince made his formal wedding proposal to Melvoin a week later at the historic Hotel de Crillon in Paris, France.
