Prince's handwritten draft of the lyrics for "Til the River Run Dry" entirely in his hand, one page, 8 x 10.5, no date but circa 1984. The page begins in pencil and continues in ballpoint, with some of the pencil traced over. The song begins: "How long I cry 'til the river run dry / …til the river run dry / U used 2 see me but u don't see me no more / U used 2 touch me but u don't touch me no more / Our love affair I thought would be / Six forevers and a week / Stickpin hab in the middle of a dream / No love at the end of the rainbow." In very good to fine condition, with some white tape to the top edge obscuring a few words in the title.

From the collection of Prince’s assistant tour manager 1984 to 1988, Gwen Leeds, who notes that Prince would frequently hand write song lyrics in notebooks and then ask that they be typed and supplied for registering and licensing. 'River Run Dry' was actually composed by Prince drummer Bobby Z, whose name appears at the top, although it is suspected that Prince may have slightly tweaked the lyrics himself. Prince produced the recording of the song by The Family for their 1985 album; it is notable as the first song sent by Prince to Clare Fischer for orchestral overdubs. The Family was a Prince protégé band that included St. Paul Peterson, Susannah Melvoin, Eric Leeds, Jerome Benton and Gary 'Jellybean' Johnson.
