Desirable color glossy 10 x 8 photo of Prince in a full-length pose lying prone on a white sofa, the ground covered in flowers and the jungle backdrop bathed in purple, with the reverse of photo annotated by Prince in black ballpoint: "Postcard, airbrush under eye." The photo was taken by Larry Williams, who shot the iconic images for the Purple Rain album cover and the When Doves Cry single release. In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Prince's former tour manager Alan Leeds, who attests that he "obtained this photograph of Prince while under his employ as Tour Manager in 1984," in part: "This photo was from one of a series of shoots designed to supply illustrations for the official program book of the 1984-1985 Purple Rain tour. A different pose from the same photo session appears in that program book and others may have been used for various promotional purposes. The notations on the back of the photo are in Prince's hand. While sorting through countless photos proposed for record sleeves, program books, promotion and advertising, Prince would habitually hand write notes designating his opinions and choices." The handwriting found on the reverse of this photo is indicative of Prince's desire to be involved in the entire creative process; although another similar photo was selected for the Purple Rain tour book, this image, as Prince's notations suggest, was likely intended to be used for a postcard—however, we have found no instance in which it was actually published. A highly displayable 'alternate' image originating from Prince's most successful period.
