This lot contains 4 Preston Monogye, 1927- 1987, prints. He was a famous HOPI artist and silversmith who won awards for his paintings, sculptures and jewelry. He was a proponent of what he called "the new Indian Art," which respected the traditions of the past while not being bound to them. He was a member of a religious group called the Katsina Society. His artwork was represented as the official poster of the 1983 Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial. 3 of these prints have his visible signature and 2 have visible dates, '81 and '82. The '81 Print measures 5" x 4.75" and the frame measures 9.25" x 7/8" x 8". The print with no visible date or signature measures 4" x 5.25", and the frame is 11" x 1" x 12.25". The print with a signature and no year measures 4" x 5" and the frame measures 9.25" x 1" x 11.74". The print with the year '82 measures 4.75" x 6", and the frame measures 8 7/8" x 7/8" x 10 1/4".
