Lyndon B. Johnson Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10.5", United States Senate stationery, Washington D.C., December 9, 1958. This letter was written to a concerned constituent, Mr. William Bond, about some of his concerns. It reads in part: "…I should say, in addition, that I did not vote "against" the States Rights Bill. We never at any time had the opportunity to vote on this legislation on the basis of its merits. The vote was on whether or not to recommit - that is, to send the whole issue back to Senator Eastland's Judiciary Committee. I voted to salvage an impossible situation…". Written while Johnson was a U.S. Senator from Texas, this shows his willingness to address his voters about personal concerns that they may have. In very fine condition; usual folds present; light overall toning; staple holes at the upper left.
