Neat white metal medal celebrating Cleveland's "Goodwill Tour" through the Mid-West and South in 1887. He arrived in Chicago on Oct. 6 to a crowd of almost 50,000. Obverse: Raised bust of Cleveland. Around the rim: "S. Grover Cleveland President of the U.S." Reverse: Welcome / To / The President / And Mrs. Cleveland. Wreath around the rim. Etched in at the top: Oct. 6-7 / 1887. Cleveland was a Democrat elected in a Republican nation. He used this tour as a way of connecting with voters before his upcoming re-elction bid. His wife accompanied him in a journey they enjoyed in Pullman's personal palace train car. While the trip was a success, Cleveland lost the presidency in 1888 to Benjamin Harrison. Has drilled loop through top for necklace. 35 mm diameter. Moderate wear.
