On September 11, 2001, America was changed forever; terrorists would forever alter the way America thought about itself and the internal measures taken to protect itself. In 2004, George W. Bush ran for re-election and in a portion of his campaign material he made this quote, "These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat, buy [sic] they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people have moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining." This piece features this very quote and the President himself has signed it. Above this poignant quote is one of the more famous photographs from the aftermath of the attack, three firemen raising the American flag in front of the rubble and devastation in Manhattan.
