Presentation grade and inscribed officer’s sword in out of the attic condition from an old collector’s estate and never researched. The top hangar is period script inscribed “Presented to Capt. E. W. Holden by the members of Co. H, 10thRegt. M.V.M., 1870” which we assume stands for the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia and probably presented at reunion or other Civil War veterans events. The sword shows fancy cast metal mountings with a German silver grip and silver plated metal scabbard. The mounts, scabbard and grip all retain considerable original finishes that are completely dark and un-cleaned. The blade remains in good condition and is nicely etched with a Solingen blade showing PDL stamp. A veryattractive sword. Est.: $1400-$2800
