Presentation engraved and inscribed cup-fire revolver by Merwin & Bray of New York showing nickel finish, gold inlaid federal style shield which is beautifully inscribed “USV” with stars and A. W. Denison in script. Thegold plaque is inlaid into the left side of the frame and the engraving frames the plaque. There is also a federal type or Union shield engraved on the top of the backstrap. The pistol is fitted with genuine to theperiod ivory grips in good to very good condition showing a nice patina, slight normal aging. The revolver shows approx. 60-80% original to the period nickel finish applied at time of engraving with sharppatent dates, just some frosting and normal aging just starting. Serial #8088. The interior is pristine with a bright bore. The nickel is frosty and not been cleaned. Markings are good, edges are sharp, crispoverall. The engraving shows the quality of L.D. Nimschke and was definitely contracted through one of the New York firms such as Schuler, Hartley, and Graham. A. W. Denison rose to the rank of Brevette Brigadier
