Presentation deluxe wood cased Cartier Cognac decanter and four snifters given by the late Robert and Margie Petersen to iconic actor and great American, John Wayne. The Petersen’s and John Wayne became acquainted thru Frank Pachmayrwho had built rifle for Mr. Wayne and Mr. Petersen. The Wayne’s subsequently invited the Petersen’s and the Pachmayr’s to dinner aboard the Wayne’s yacht, the “Wild Goose”, docked in Newport Harbor. At this dinner, the Petersen’spresented this set to the “Duke”, who later re-gifted it to his close friend, the late and also great Southern California car dealer, Chick Iversen who in turn, traded it as part of a long-winded car deal to well-known SouthernCalifornia collector Jerry Bryant at a later date. An interesting letter of provenance is included as is a plaque on the top of the deluxe wood casing that reads “To a Great American, John (Duke) Wayne from your friend Robert E. Peterson(sp) Petersen Publishing, 7-11-60”. (Note the two different spellings of Petersen was most likely an inside joke); a great piece of 1960’s O.C. memorabilia! Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
