Presentation Grade Civil War Cavalry officer's sword with guard. Period inscribed "Presented to Capt. Daniel Lillie by the veteran volunteers of Co. I, 4th VT., Feb 3, 1964" in beautiful script. The sword measures 41-1/4" overall with W. Clauberg Soligen blade and fancy cast German silver grip, ornate guard with U.S. and leaf design, cast eagle pommel. The scabbard shows fancy mounts with eagle, mounted officer, fancy drag with union shield engraved on reverse. Unfortunately this sword has been completely refinished by heirs in the 20th century. The blade has been re-fit in hilt using nut and screw after disassembly for plating. An unresearched Civil War sword that could be restored properly as still fairly sharp. $1,500 - $3,000
