This is a lot of 2 photographs. 1) Cabinet card featuring miners of the Congress Gold Mine. The miners are located at the Cross Cut at the 925 feet level. Note the Burleigh drill in the background of the photo, this drill was revolutionary in the world of 19th century mining. Fun fact! In order to get enough light, magnesium was ignited to allow for enough light in the mine for the picture to be taken. The photographers are identified as Messinger & Altenburgh. The two photographers were partners in Phoenix from 1895 to 1898. The photo measures 7.45” x 4.5 and is mounted on an off white matte that measures 8.5” x 5.5.” The focus is sharp in the middle of the photo, but mildly unfocused on the sides. 2) This photo was taken on from the Southeast side of the Huron townsite and features 10 miners posed for a photo. There is no photographer identified. The focus is sharp; the contrast is medium with some fading in the middle. There is some surface wear. Bud Bassett Collection - HKA#65403
