Prehistoric Jornada Mogollon Bowl. As found 3''H x 8'' diameter. Outside natural with smoke clouds. Inside decorated black on red. Crack runs about half way. The western tip of Texas and adjacent areas of southern New Mexico and northern Mexico have a distinctive archeological tradition known as the Jornada Mogollon. The ''jornada'' comes from the Jornado del Muerto-journey of death. The Mogollon is one of the ''big three'' cultures in the Southwest (the others are the Anasazi and Hohokam) and is the largest in geographical extent. Prehistoric pottery found on private ranchland near Arabela-Bluewater in South Central New Mexico and acquired in accordance with all state and federal regulations. Items date from 900-1400 A.D. and were produced by the Jornado branch of the Mogollon culture. Some Casas Grande and El Paso prehistoric pottery was also found in these same sites.
