The chorotegas used the fruits of the annatto and the guaitil, from wich the pigments of the colors red and black are extracted, respectively

The chorotegas were an indigenous tribe, living in northen zone of Costa Rica , they were related with the mayas and other centralamerican tribes. Like all the past tribes in latin america they used to live in armonie with the nature and the enviroment , that is why the use the animals in their art , in this case the monkey, wich is one of the common animals in the north pasrt of costa rica.
