Pre-World War II Belgian Browning Auto 5 Shotgun
For sale in this lot is a great example of the Pre-World War II, Browning Automatic 5, 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun. The shotgun was designed by the renowned John Browning and produced by Fabrique Nationale in 1925. The Auto-5 was the first successful semi-automatic shotgun design and it ran almost interrupted between 1905 and 1998. John Browning considered the design for the A5, "his best achievement", when presented to Winchester however, they refused his terms. Next Browning went to Remington with the design, but when Browning was waiting on presenting the design, the president passed of a heart attack. It was at that point Browning looked over-seas and came to agreement with FN. The shotgun is long-recoil operated and holds four shells in the magazine tube and one in the chamber. The shotgun is marked in numerous places, reading “Browning Arms Company Ogden Utah” on the top of the barrel, "Full 12 Special Steel", accompanied by multiple proofs, on the left side of the barrel, "Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre Herstal Belgique - Browning Patent Depose" on the left side of the receiver, and "FN" with the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. The shotgun shows very-good condition, displaying obvious use, but good care. The walnut fixtures show light handling marks and the bore does show some darkness. Serial Number: 141225. The shotgun qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
