Pre-World War I U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet

Manufactured in early 1916 and "S A/flaming bomb/3- 16" marked barrel, standard blade front sight with elevation and windage adjustable rear sight having the 2,850 yard volley notch. The bolt has a straight knob and is marked with the steel lot code "I8" on the safety lug. Smooth straight grip stock with grasping grooves, one reinforcing bolt, "J.S.A." cartouche on the left wrist, circled script "P" proofmark on wrist and checkered steel buttplate. With a Rock Island Arsenal Model 1905 bayonet dated 1906 and tan web scabbard with leather tip.

Fine with 50% plus of the original blue finish remaining with wear on the buttplate, floor plate, front sight boss and high edges of the receiver. The partially refinished stock is fine with a faint circled "P" proofmark, a small tight hairline crack at the top of the wrist and a filled section near the right rear of the receiver. Mechanically fine. The bayonet is good with most of the dark gray finish remaining showing some sharpening marks, some freckling and some wear. The scabbard is very good with scattered stains and some wear.
