Our Assessment: This is a pre-war Winchester Model 42 .410 bore pump-action shotgun from 1939. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. Many consider the Model 42 the best .410 bore pump shotgun ever made. It was in production for 30 years and was discontinued in 1963 when the company restructured and cut costs resulting in the "Pre-64" and "Post-64" terms in the collecting community. The gun is in Nice condition, showing wear consistent with light and responsible use. The gun retains a great bore and strong mechanics, so it should still make for a good shooter. It would make a fine addition to any collection, especially if you have a new generation of shooters to train. Please see our photos, good luck and happy bidding!
