It is uniquely marked with a noted "U-Boat" Commanders name and date. WWII Nazi Navy items are very difficult to find in any condition, primarily because they went down in the Atlantic during the late stages of the war. The following; "Hans Fiedler 1937" has been milled into the frame on the left side, around the curve directly behind the trigger. The person matching the inscription is reportedly, Kapitanleutnant Captain Hans Fiedler. He was a noted U-Boat Commander that served in the German Navy, joining that service from 1936 to late July 1944, when he was lost at sea on U333. Captain Fiedler served on U-Boats during the war, initially on U120 that was assigned to the U-Boat Schulflottille, (Feb 1942-Sept 1942) then on U564, from Oct 1942 to Jun 1943, with three patrols (114 days at sea) to his credit. Then on U998, during Jun 1944 with 4 patrols, over six days, and then on U333 from 23 July 1944 to 31 July 1944 when that boat it was reported lost at sea. During his service for the German Navy, he was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd and 1st Class, The U-Boat War Badge 1939, and the Fleet War Badge. This example has the standard factory Walther banner, address, caliber and model markings along with Crown N proofs on the frame, slide and barrel, with the 90 degree safety lever and ring hammer with sight slot. It is fitted with a standard one-piece grip with Walther banners at the top and the flat base, blued magazine with "WALTHER" banner on the lower left side of the magazine body. Accompanying this pistol are internet copies of Kapitanleutnant Fiedler's service record and U-Boat assignments.
