Pre-War Smith & Wesson 38/44 heavy duty 38 special caliber D.A. revolver on 44 size frame, 5 screw early production, 5” barrel, fully and finely engraved in Germanic style heavy acorn and oak leaf scroll and marked on left top of frame “Paul Jaeger Inc. Jenkintown, PA”. With documentation as being engraved by Claus Willig. The revolver shows fine line gold inlaid borders and scrolls, standard checkered wood medallion grips.Serial # 44005. The revolver is in mint condition as restored at time of engraving. The action and bore are also fine to excellent, the hammer and trigger show most of their original case hardening. ClausWillig was a very highly regarded engraver who accomplished this masterpiece pre 1956. The Willig legacy of engravers is chronicled in a copy of the journal of the German gun collectors association, winter 2002. PaulJaeger of Pennsylvania handled the best quality German arms available in the post war era and still today imports the finest available sporting arms. Est.; $3,000-$5,000.
