Pre-War Mauser Bolt Action Mannlicher Carbine, by G.L. Rasch, #478, 8mmx57mm cal., 22'' round barrel with applied full-length rib, rust blue finish, double set triggers, walnut Mannlicher style stock with horn tip, Monte Carlo cheekpiece, rounded Prince of Wales type pistol grip, and blued steel buttplate. Action is engraved on top sections with scrolls and flourishes, a banner with engraved letters ''G.L. Rasch. Braunschweig'', and line borders. Top of barrel rib is engraved with a dot in a diamond pattern to matte the glare, with the same pattern of engraving on the buttplate. Dovetailed rear sight is a round peep type and dovetailed front sight is an inverted ''V''. There is a banner in the top rib with engraved name ''G.L.Rasch. Braunschweig''. Bolt is finished in the white and has a spoon-handle type knob with a checkered center panel. There are matching numbers on the bolt knob base and small parts of the bolt assembly. There are commercial German proofmarks on side of receiver of ''(crown)B'', ''(crown/U'', ''(crown/N'', ''St.mG'', and ''12.7gr.''. Magazine floorplate has a lever retainer arm. Triggerguard, floorplate and housing are all engraved with line borders, scroll and decorative flourishes, and screw heads are engraved with scalloped decorative lines. Wood stock is a full-length Mannlicher style with two wedge type retainers on the forend section, fine checkering on grip panels, and blued steel engraved buttplate, with sling swivels. Condition is excellent with the action and barrel retaining approx. 95% of its proper rust blued finish, showing thinning on high edges of barrel rib, minor losses to finish on the inside of triggerguard and floorplate. Action and set triggers function properly. Bright in-the-white finish on bolt assembly shows minor age and spotting, with a nice bright fire blue finish on extractor bar. Fire blued finish on the bolt release spring is approx. 99%. Stock shows some flattening and a few minor dings to checkered grip panels, scattered scratches and minor dings in a few places, and there is a repaired crack at the tip of the forend and horn tip that is about 3'' long on the left side. There is a small tight chip in the stock, at the tang section of the action; buttplate retains approx. 98% of its blued finish. Est.: $1,400-$1,800. (C&R)
